I’m working with a videographer in Indianapolis today, getting footage of a final segment for the new DVD for those interested in growing annual ryegrass as a cover crop.

This is basically an update of a DVD we did a couple of years ago, and it will still contain lots of good, basic info about how to plant, manage and harvest annual ryegrass…as well as the considerable benefits of doing so.

This version, however, has a broader scope. Among the added segments are ones devoted to aerial seeding, use of annual ryegrass with livestock manure, advice about avoiding winterkill (plant early and hope for weather that brings some snow and spares the freeze and thaw cycles), and use of annual ryegrass as a livestock forageĀ  crop.

In this version, we talk to growers in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky who have been using annual ryegrass for at least a few years. There areĀ  also interviews with agronomists and researchers from Purdue (Eileen Kladivco) , NRCS (Barry Fisher), University of Illinois (Mike Plumer) and University of Kentucky (Garry Lacefield, Ray Smith).

The DVD will be available in January at the National No-Till Conference, Jan 13 - 16, in Des Moines, IA. After that, it will also be available from the annual ryegrass website.
